ABSTRACT
The Fossoli Camp represents, in our Country, perhaps one of the greatest testaments to the most dramatic stories that have marked the "brief Century."
The six hectares of the Camp have been witness to some of the most tragic stories of the XX century: the imprisonment of the prisoners of war; the Jewish persecution and the repression of the opposers to the nazi-fascist dictatorship; the chaos that follows any conflict; Nomadelfia - or of the utopia of the Reconstruction; the Istrian exodus.
The Foundation ex Fossoli Camp, in collaboration with the University and the Ministry of National Heritage and Culture, means to define, as soon as possible, an immediate programme of safeguard of the established testaments; to detect the most opportune conservative choices to adopt, in terms of techniques, systems of protection and possible consolidation; to indentify a strategy of interventions founded on subsequent and progressive steps with the aim of evaluating the consistency and significance of the Monument and the defining of a planned maintenance programme, which can be carried out by workers with different levels of skill, able to ensure "efficiency" to the ability of evocation and memory of the Camp.
The contribution cannot illustrate the final results of a research still in progress; it will limit itself above all to drafting the theoretical-methodological aspects of the programme, on which this general project to safeguard and exploit the Camp is founded.
