ABSTRACT
Today the restoration of historic main doors and frames is still poorly considered and studied and it is dealing with the issue of collecting relevant data for a better understanding of various construction systems. This represents the basic approach to define a proper practice of intervention.
Also the constant changes in temperature caused different natural processes like evaporation, condensation and ice.
All together this processes gradually decay the capillary structures of porous materials, such as wood. These hygrothermal exchanges occur in the front side of the door, exposed to sun, rain and wind. Differently, the back side is sheltered from this action. The final consequence of these different behaviours is that the regular function of the main door has been compromised and the torsion at the top has been accentuated.
