ABSTRACT
The main carachteristic of Palazzo Alterocca, today occupied by the offices of Monte dei Paschi di Siena Bank, is to be one of the first buildings in wich the architect Cesare Bazzani tried to use a new architectural language.
In the exterior surfaces of the building realized between 1901 and 1903 to be used as typography, book store and private home, have been used innovative materials for that period, that can be still see today.
The different materials used for the costruction have been marked by the events of the last century, starting from weather ad environmental conditions and finishing with the damages caused by the world wars passing trough the restauration works that involved the palace that are still visible today.
The new preservation design tries to consider what has happened to these materials since the day of the construction to now, and the design team has taken the occasion to study and collect information about their specific behaviour trough the time.
