ABSTRACT
The evaluation of the effectivness of conservation treatments is often neglected or performed by empirical methods.
The aim of this paper is to present some methodologies for a scientific evaluation of consolidation treatments on stone artifacts.
The consolidation is an operation that involves the original material in depth and it is therefore necessary to investigate the changes, induced by consolidation, in the inner layers of stone too.
In order to this pourpose the measurements of the ultrasonic velocity can be very useful but the methodics usually used (the measurement of the travel time point to point), are not satisfactory to verify the overall behavior.
The use of tomographic techniques allows instead to obtain informations on portions of material sufficiently wide
In the paper are illustrated the evaluation of consolidation carried out, by ultrasonic tomography in two different real situations: Procuratie Vecchie in piazza San Marco-Venezia and Cappella del Guarini -Torino
