ABSTRACT
Entomologycanbeanimportantsupportinarchaeologicalresearch.Thearthropodfaunainarchaeological
contextsisapreciousresourcefordeterminingtypeandlevelsofenvironmentalchangesresultingfrom
humanintervention,aswellasbeingseriousdegradingagentsofhistoricalandarchaeologicalpatrimony in
situ andincollections.Thus,thisstudyaimedtoanalyzetheinsectsinTupiguaraniburialurnsediment,a
Brazilianindigenoustraditionrepresentative,inordertoevaluatetheconservationstatusofthis
archaeologicalheritage.TheIsoptera(Kalotermitidae),Lepidoptera(Tineidae)andPsocoptera
(Liposcelididae – Liposcelis sp.–andanotherunidentifiedfamily)orderswererecognizedascontaminants
acquiredduringthetimespentinmuseum.Theentomologicalanalysisshowstheneedforacurationplan
thatblocksfavorableconditionsfordegradationincreasewithaviewtoprotectthisarchaeologicalheritage.
