ABSTRACT
Aim of this work is to identify a common path, common both for archaeologist and restorers or
chemists,startingfromtheexcavationandendinginlaboratorytomanagecorrectlyfinds.Forthispurpose,it
is necessary that all people working on the objects have a common knowledge on the nature of materials,
their composition and degradation. The familiarity with the composition of the archaeological materials, the
awareness of the interaction between the soils and the artefacts; the expertise on the consolidation and
conservation techniques are indispensable skills for preserving the objects. “Preservation” means
consolidate and restore the archaeological objects without the loss of the information derivable through
chemical-physical analysis. This paper explains how archaeologists and archaeometrists have worked
together in Torcello 2012 excavation, sharing methodologies and preparing specific conservation and
researchproject.
