ABSTRACT
One focuses attention on the formative and transformative processuality of urban areas and landscapes
affected byarcheological findings that connote important historical stratification. Particular attention isgiven
to those centers where it is not possible to indicate continuity solutions, for which it is complicated to carry
out excavations that facilitate a stratigraphical reading, hence the need to put into place a methodology for
non-destructive reading. The context considered is the Messapiian landscape, with the case of Oria along the
Appian Way, along the Taranto-Brindisi axis – a paradigmatic example of organisms with a strong
archaeologicalvocation.
The analysis carried out through meticulous research of published and unpublished sources, direct
observations in the field, and interpretation of all collected data is finalized into a synthesis which is able to
collect and understand the particularities to be safeguarded. Through the study of several examples, such as
the formation of routes, the construction of fortifications, readings of different scales, and with a
multidisciplinary look, one intends to reach the elaboration of guidelines useful to identify shared strategies
of conservation and valorization of historic centers, characterized by high stratigraphic presence, where the
