ABSTRACT
The archeological park of Baratti and Populonia was inaugurated in 1998 and enlarged in 2007. The park
stretches from the Baratti bay with the remains of the necropolis from the Etruscan period to the top of the
hillsofPopuloniawiththemonumentalremainsoftheacropolisoftheancientcity.
The creation of the park and its development are the successful result of collaboration between the Heritage
and Cultural Activities Ministry (in particular, the Tuscany Regional Direction for Cultural and Landscape
Heritage and the Tuscany Archeology Department) the Tuscany Regional Council, the Municipality of
PiombinoandtheParchiValdiCorniaSPAwhichisentrustedwiththemanagement.
The aim is to highlight the philosophy with which, in the area of the Park, there have been projects for the
conservation and enhancement of the assets, with particular reference to the intervention of a recent ARCUS
funding(currentlyinprogress).
This project has been elaborated respecting the management and valorization strategies following the
agreement between the Heritage and Cultural Activities Ministry, the Tuscany Regional Council and the
Municipality of Piombino. An agreement for “exploitation, coordinated and integrated valorization of local
Cultural Heritage of the area of Baratti and Populonia aimed at the completion and management of the
ArcheologicalPark”.
