ABSTRACT

The State Archives of Bologna is located in the former Celestine Convent and various artifacts contiguous, in the heart

ofthecity.Oneofthesebuildings,medievalandeighteenth-centurylater,wasfordecadesinpoorstorageconditions,so

as to arrive at the beginning of the millennium demolition of many unsafe parts. From studies it was known that the

groundsofthebuildingstoodovertheendoftheRomantheaterofBologna,whichisoffundamentalimportanceforthe

history of the city. The discovery is located in one of the courtyards of the composite property and after the

archaeological site of the knowledge of the finds and the relief of the area, the authorities involved, they considered

appropriate, given the character of use of the Archives, the boundary conditions in terms of allocation of resources and

logistics, to opt for a conservation through the backfilling of the excavation, just a view of the protection of the finds,

andtoenhancetheusabilityofwhatisknownthroughthedocumentationitproduces.

It will implement then the closure of the excavation, after consolidation of the remaining times and putting them in

safetywiththerealizationofametallicgarrisonforthepreservationandsafetyoftheruin.
